About Us

About Nature’s Nursery
Nature’s Nursery
is a year-round school and camp with programs for children through age 12. Nature’s Nursery was created in response to the needs of the surrounding communities. We have been offering our services to the community for more than 20 years.

The preschool program is located in the Snyder Room of the Behrman Building. Our other programs access various classroom spaces throughout the campus.

It is our mission to assist children with their social, physical and emotional growth. We hope to expand their experiential background to provide a solid foundation for present and future learning.

Nature’s Nursery is a program of Green Chimneys School, a not-for-profit educational corporation established in 1947.

Our Staff
Our staff is made up of certified teachers and trained assistants. Volunteers are welcome. All staff references are checked and a screening is conducted through the State Central Registry Clearance. Screenings are also done for tuberculosis and drugs. Staff receive yearly educational training and training in CPR and infection control.

Robin Korson
Director

Robin began working at Nature’s Nursery in 1986 as a part time teacher’s aide. She was hired as a full time employee in 1992 as the coordinator for the School-Age program and the instructor for the 3-year old program. She is also a certified lifeguard and the school’s bus driver. Robin took the position of director in September 2007 and continues to strive for program excellence. Robin holds the New York State School-Age Child Care Credential and was the recipient of the 2006 National Quest for Excellence Award for school-age care. She has been recognized for her exceptional commitment to young children and her dedication to the early childhood field. Robin is the recipient of the 2008 Champions of Child Care Award given by the Child Care Council of Dutchess and Putnam and has been nominated again in 2009 for this award and the New York State Association for the Education of Young Children Child Care award as well.

Doris Brenner
Doris has been a valued part of our staff for many years. She first came to us and worked as a teacher's assistant and a few years later with the school-aged program. She left, only to return in 2002, again as a teachers assistant but will soon be receiving her national teaching credentials as a CDA, Child Development Associate.

Doris also has a wealth of knowledge about gymnastics, having worked over nine years as a coach at Karen's World of Gymnastics and for the past five years as an acrobatics teacher for Seven Star Dance Studio.

Claire Cull
Claire has worked at Nature’s Nursery for five years as a teacher of three-, and four-year olds, as well as kindergartners. She has a strong background in the educational needs of children. Claire incorporates this knowledge, into her classroom, very effectively and the children thoroughly enjoy their lessons and look forward to spending time with her.

Claire has a baccalaureate degree in psychology and elementary education, N-6. Prior to working at Nature’s Nursery, Claire taught preschool, kindergarten and grades 1 through 3 in the local areas of Putnam, Westchester, and Long Island.

Nancy Knapp
Nancy has taught the 4-year old pre-k class at Nature’s Nursery for the past six years. She has helped develop an excellent program. Nancy has an easy-going manner which makes the children and their parents enjoy their preschool experience.

Nancy holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, nursery through 6th grade. Prior to working at Nature’s Nursery, Nancy worked with toddlers and pre- kindergartners as well as substitute teaching in local elementary schools.

Amie-Jo Spencer
Amie-Jo has been at Nature’s Nursery since October of 2007 as the teacher for the three-year old group.  She understands that a child’s education begins in the early childhood years when they are beginning to understand the world around them and develop their own unique learning styles.

She graduated from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY in May of 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood/Special Education. She holds New York State Teaching Certification in both Early Childhood Education and Special Education (Birth to Grade 2).
